Bhumthang Cultural Trek

Bhumthang Cultural Trek is a 3 days short trek that requires strength to climb 500 m to Phephe La. This trek is so called Bumthang Cultural trek as many villages and Lhakhangs (temples) come across its path. So, the trekker has more opportunity to learn about cultures of many villages.
The trek has suspension bridges to cross, clear streams and rivers like Duer Chhu as well as Bumthang Chhu give refreshing feeling for the trekker. Thankabi village has the Thankabi Goemba with its distinctive yellow roof. Then there are two routes that leads to Ngnag Lhakhang, the swan temple, which as two water driven prayer wheels. The water is running down from interesting slice way of carved stones.
The first route crosses the Bumthang Chhu and passes through meadows and forest fo blue pine and scrub bamboo. The other alternative route to Ngang Lhakhang, only adds less than 30 minutes to next days's walk. Taken this route, the trek passes through the Sangsangma village, where one can see the village women selling yathra and trinkets. This village has speciality to offer. The trekkers can try the local Bumthang buckwheat delicacies of khule (pancake) and putta (noodles). Wild boars and bears are common in this area.
Then from Ngang Lhakhang the path crosses many streams, with climbing crossing back and forth across the stream on a series of slippery logs and stones. After the steep climb upto Phephe La, the climb continues through a rhododendron forest. Then the trail passes through and out of forests and meadows of grazing yaks and cows to the village of Tahung.
Behind the Tahung village, there is Australian assisted Wobtang Sheep Development Project. Then the path can either be taken straight back to Mesithang, the finish point of the trek, through Kizum and Tang villlage or can be taken a side trip to Ugyen Chholing. This is a 45 minute climb from suspension bridge across the Tang chhu, near Gamling Village. From here, the path follows around farmyard and come across four chortens. The Ugyen Chholing is the palace in Tang valley, which is on the top of the hill.

Day 3:Tahung to Mesithang
Best time for this trekking will be from March to May and from September to November.
