Mendoza province

The province of Mendoza is located in the Cuyo region in the western central part of Argentina. It has a lot of diverse landscapes to offer. You can find the famous mountain Aconcagua (6959 meter) here as well as semi flat lands in the East.

The climate is continental, sunny and dry in the entire territory of the province, with warm summers and relatively cold winters. Mendoza has tourists a lot to offer. You can go skiing in the ski centre Las Lenas.

There are many possibilities for trekking, hiking and climbing (f.i. the Aconcagua mountain).

Also a very import attraction are the wineries (some 1200). Mendoza is the wine province of Argentina. Wine tourism has become very popular, with numerous wine-tourism oriented hotels appearing throughout the province. You can go on a wine tour in a winerie with wine tastings.

Cerro Aconcagua is the highest mountain in the western hemisphere and sits within the Argentina boundaries. You can ascend the top. The climb of Cerro Aconcagua is not technically difficult but it surely is very demanding in terms of strength and endurance. There are enough other options and smaller treks in the Parque Provincial Aconcagua, if you do not want to climb the top.

Other attractions in the province are;

* the provincial parks of the Atuel Canyon

* Puente del Inca - an incredible bridge that was developed over a natural hot springs in the past lives of the Incan people.

* The statue of Christ the Redeemer of the Andes in the mountains on the Chilean border - this is also a trekking destination. In 1904 this statue that was raised to the high peaks of the Andes Mountains as a symbol of peace between Argentina and Chile.

More options for trekking in the Mendoza area; Cerro Penitentes - lies in a popular area for avid trekkers. These rocky figures stretch up to 4,350 meters in the beautiful Andes Mountain Range. If you want to go to the top it is somewhat more demanding. This hike takes about 2 or 3 days and involves camping.

There are plenty of trekking options and guided tours in the area that offer anywhere from full day to 7 day excursions. Your first stop should be the city of Mendoza where you will find much information.
