Location

Gokyo village 27° 58' 40.0044" N, 86° 41' 11.6376" E

Gokyo is a small hamlet of stone houses and stone walled pastures which nestles on the lateral morraine of the Ngozumba Glacier. Almost all buildings are guest houses for trekkers. The people who live here in the season are leaving to other (lower) villages like Namche Bazar in the off season. Gokyo village is lying on an altitude of roughly 4800 meter, located on the banks of the third Gokyo Lake (Dudh Pokhari).
You will visit this wonderful place, if you will do the Gokyo Lakes trek, that is widely regarded as one of Nepal’s classic treks. Or you can include it as a part of the Everest Basecamp Trek. If the weather is good in the afternoon on the day you arrive then you can make an ascent of the peak Gokyo Ri (5357 meters). Amazing views of Mount Everest, Lhotse and Cho Oyu (8153 meter) can be seen from the tremendous location. It is recommended to stay in Gokyo for a few days. You can make some great day hikes and visit some other lakes if you walk in the direction of Cho Oyu (north).
