Ranighat palace, Kali Gandaki riverA long day hike or a two day trekking to Ranighat is one the most well known trips from Tansen. The Ranighat palace was built by Khadga Shamsher Rana, an exiled politician from Kathmandu. It was built in 1896 on the east bank of the Kali Gandaki river.

There are two ways leading to Ranighat, one from the east side of Shreenagar hill above Tansen (in the direction of Bagnas, but turn left before you reach the village) and one on the west side of Shreenagar hill near hotel Shreenagar. Both routes lead through several small villages. If you make a long day hike on warmer days you better take the eastern route first and the western route for your return journey to climb back to Tansen in the shade of the hills. Near Ranighat Durbar there are several lodges providing food and accommodation. So, if you have the time a two days trek will probably more relaxed and more enjoyable.
