ChinaChina (officially: The People's Republic of China) is one of the biggest countries in the world and the most populous of all with a population of around 1.4 billion people. It is said to be one of the earliest centers of human civilization. The earliest evidence of fully modern human life dates from approximately 67,000 years ago. Around 4000 years ago parts of the country were ruled by the first dynasty, the Xia dynasty, for around 500 years. Many dynastic rules follow in different parts of the country.

In 1912 the last dynasty, the Qing dynasty was replaced by a republic state form and China entered it's "modern era".

Of course, such a huge country has many different ecoregions and the landscape varies dramatically between different parts of the country. Therefor China is a year-round travel destination, but when visiting just a small part of the country it is wise to check the best visiting time in advance.

Since Tibet, being a autonomous region already, has a very unique character, both in terms of culture and geographic, on this website it is regarded as a separate "country" on this website.

In "mainland" China there are some excellent trekking regions: f.e. in Yunnan province (with the famous Tiger Leaping Gorge trek), Guangxi province, Anhui province.
