SikkimNestled in the lap of the Himalayas, bounded by some of the highest mountain peak, amidst spectacular terrain, pristine lakes, luxuriant forests, roaring rivers and gentle streams, Sikkim is a veritable paradise and a destination for all seasons. Like (places in) Tibet, Nepal and Bhutan, Sikkim was regarded as one of the Himalayan "Shangri-La's" because of its remoteness and the mythical attraction it has on its visitors. Actually Sikkim is not a country anymore since in 1975 the inhabitants voted for union with India in a referendum, but it's still an autonomous regions and besides an Indian visa foreign visitors need a special permit to visit Sikkim. Moreover, even within Sikkim there are some areas for which an additional permit is required and some areas are fully restricted. Also because of its unique character we kind of regard it as a separate country on this website. Sikkim is a real trekking paradise, with a variety of excellent treks, fe: - Khangchenzonga trek - Khedi trek - Kostori trek - Richenpong / Soreng trekking
