The Saccarello Ring
Irom Triora (m 776) along the unpaved road we reach the Passo della Guardia (m 1461), arrival point of the ex military road unrolling on the southern side of M. Fronté and M.Saccarello and connecting Colle del Garezzo with Passo di Collardente. Turning to the
right there starts a mule-track steeply up to Passo Garlenda (m 2021), opening upon the watershed be- tween the Valle Argentina and
The Saccarello Ring
From the ridge, keeping the Alta Via dei Monti Liguri as refer- ence point, we go fur- ther westwards touch-
ing M. Cimonasso (m 2065), Rifugio Sanre- mo (m 2054), Cima Valletta (m 2064), Punta Santa Maria (m 2138) up to M.Saccarello (m 2201). Departing from the top of the important oro-hydro- graphical junction, amidst the Argentina, Tanaro and Roja Valleys, we go further for about 700 m, direction PassoTanarello (m 2042), to step on a path on the left going down steeply to Passo di Collardente (m 1601). We have now to cover the 7 km separating this Colle from Passo della Guardia; we are indeed back on to the same military road we had left at the beginning of the excursion. This last tract enables the view of the spectacular rocky cliffs of the southern side of the M.Sac- carello, where by an accurate watching we might sight chamois, marmots and, in the sky, various types of birds of prey , included the rare golden eagle.
