Umbria is located in the heart of Italy. The region has two provinces, Perugia and Terni. Umbria is one of the smallest regions of Italy. Bordered to the east and north-east with Le Marche, west and north-west with Tuscany and the south and south-west with Lazio. The landscape is mostly mountainous and hilly. The region offers a wide variety of landscape through a series of valleys, mountain ranges, plains and highlands. In the thirteenth century was founded the city of Assisi was founded by San Francesco d'Assisi. The splendid frescoes by Giotto, Cimabue, Lorenzetti and Simone Martini, present in the basilica of Assisi, represent the power of religious fervor and medieval mystical time.
