Sundarijal falls under Bagmati Zone and it is one of the 57 VDCs of Kathmandu Valley. Sundarijal is situated 15km North-east of Kathmandu and it is a tourism area and it is also a starting point for the tourist who chooses to trek to Langtang range.

Sundarijal is also a famous picnic spot for Nepalese which is named after the Hindu goddess Sundarimai. Most of the land of Sundarijal is covered by hills and forests. The main portion of Sundarijal is covered by Shivapuri National Park. There is also a hydropower plant here which provides the power supply for nine wards of the VDC.

Farming is the main occupation of the people who lives in Sundarijal and farming of millet, maize, some vegetables and barley fields can also be seen here. Sundarijal is a home of 177 species of birds, 102 species of butterflies and a variety of natural forest.
