Bungamati is a classic 16th century Newari village which is just 10 kilometers away from Kathmandu, Nepal; it comes under Lalitpur District in Bagmati Zone. Bungamati is a birth place of Rato Machhendranath and it is believed that Rato Machhendranath has great powers over rain. Every year, the chariot of Rato Machhendranath goes around the town by the people pulling a temple chariot on during the valley’s most spectacular festival.
There are few attractions in Bungamati:
1. Newari Culture Museum – It has a display of local traditional life style and the Ganesh shrine also. Around the square, you can see the chaityas (small stupa) and praying wheels. Following the north gate you will see Dey Pukha (Central Pond).
2. Karya Binayak Temple – This temple lies between Bungamati and Khokna and it is dedicated to Lord Ganesh. The view from Karya Binayak Temple is superb.
